As kids who get more and more curious as they grow, my children have been asking me lots of random questions every day, sometimes every hour, and even every minute. I often get off-guard whenever I hear them outrageous but sensible questions, particularly about having a baby sister or brother, especially my daughter! She says her almost 3-year old brother is no longer a baby, and that she misses having a little baby in the family. I work my way around to make her understand what “not yet” means and why it is so, but she brings it up again after a few days or weeks, thinking my vague “not yet” period is up.
That’s when I started thinking of a way to make her experience the joy of having her own “baby”, without having a real baby sister or brother yet for that matter. I told her that because she’s already a big girl, I would expect her to look after her future baby sister so she needs to be ready for that responsibility first. So in the meantime, she can practice her big sister and pretend mommy duties with her new Baby Alive doll from Hasbro.
We got the Baby Alive Super Snacks Snackin’ Sara. Sara is a beautiful blonde baby girl with medium length hair and big blue eyes. She wears a pink colour printed top and fuchsia leggings. Just like a real baby, she can tell her mommy when she’s hungry, full, or sleepy. She can speak in English and French. The first time my daughter got a hold of her newest baby, she seemed like she instantly knew what to do to take care of Sara. She made sure to feed her on time (the same time as our family mealtimes!), and sweetly rocked her to sleep during her own naptimes and bedtime. She also thinks Sara is a good girl because it was too easy to change her diapers. Even my son enjoys playing with the doll. 🙂
She was so fond of Sara that I quickly got convinced about how ready she is to have a baby sister. But gladly, she seemed to be too fond of her that she hasn’t brought up that baby sister question again so far. She also told me that she realized how busy a big sister and mommy could be, because on top of the baby care duties are lots of chores on the side. She enjoyed preparing her Sara’s non-toxic doll food using the different shapers and the roller, but then in real life there would be cooking and dishwashing duties aside from the feeding.
Yet my daughter wants to introduce more new food to her Sara, because she thinks her baby might get tired of the same food. Good thing, there’s Baby Alive Snackin’ Sara Super Snacks Pack!
