As moms, we hold many different roles in our lives that extend beyond the caretaking of our children. We are also spouses, employees, sisters, and friends. We are constantly trying to strike a delicate balance between caring for everyone around us, while simultaneously ensuring that our own needs are met. Between the dishes that won’t wash themselves, the endless carpools to dance and soccer, and maintaining the many relationships with others that are important to us, we are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to prioritize and simplify our lives.
One of the most prevalent parenting battles we face is that of mealtime; we attempt to feed our children a wholesome, balanced diet, while they, in turn, would rather eat pizza and chocolate cake. They refuse the sight of anything green, and the word “quinoa” sends them into a full on tantrum. Mealtime can quickly escalate into the ultimate battleground, ending with your carrot-covered surrender. It is even more difficult on the go, as we are constantly running our kids to playgroups or picking up groceries for tonight’s dinner. Cooking organic snacks and meals from scratch isn’t always realistic, especially for our miniature army of food critics.
We can’t do it all, and we must admit this to ourselves sometimes. Every so often, though, a product comes along, designed with the entire family in mind, which allows us to feel that much closer to achieving Supermom status.
With that, I give you Baby Gourmet.
Baby Gourmet is a fantastic product line of healthy, organic meals and snacks, primarily for babies eight months and older. Don’t let that fool you, though – these fun, on-the-go foods are suitable for toddlers and preschoolers alike, as evidenced by the fact that my two-year-old and six-year-old both can’t get enough of them. I have been fortunate enough to sample some of Baby Gourmet’s newest products for our family, and the results have been nothing but positive. Baby Gourmet has solved the problem of ensuring that my children have healthy, wholesome snacks when I don’t always have time to prepare them myself. I feel good about what my kids are eating, and they love the taste. There are no tears and bribes – they really look forward to snack time!
First, let’s start with the basics: whether we like to admit it or not, attractive packaging is always a plus, and Baby Gourmet does not disappoint. Their purees come in adorable pouches that are easy to store both at home and in my diaper bag. They can easily be recapped if my child doesn’t eat the entire pouch in one sitting, which means less mess. The pouches, themselves, have beautiful pictures of fruits, veggies, and grains on the front, which is very attention grabbing for my curious toddler. Beyond the packaging, the contents of Baby Gourmet’s products make me feel good from a nutritional standpoint. There’s no added sugar, salt, or fillers, and most of the ingredients consist of organic fruits, vegetables, grains, yogurts, and spices.
Since I am constantly running errands, accessibility is important to me. When you find something you love, you want to easily be able to obtain more of it. Baby Gourmet’s products are both affordable and readily available. You can find them at your local Target, Walmart, Safeway, Real Canadian Superstore, or Loblaws. Their website is also extremely user friendly and allows you to locate your local store that sells the products you’re looking for.
Now, onto the fabulousness that is their new product line.
Baby Gourmet just added two delicious flavors of purees to their line up: coconut, kiwi, and mangostreen with quinoa, as well as peachy pumpkin spiced amaranth. They also introduced banana berry Greek yogurt mushies, a fun finger food for babies eight months and older, and a delicious banana raisin oatmeal for ages six months and older.
The coconut, kiwi, and mangosteen with quinoa flavor was one of my son’s favorites, while my daughter couldn’t get enough of the peachy pumpkin spiced amaranth. I love that they are both gluten free and contain four fantastic food groups that will give them the nutrition they need, without the argument of eating healthy foods. My kids love the way they taste, and enjoy the nice, smooth texture both cold and at room temperature. You don’t need to refrigerate these pouches before use, which is perfect for a nutritional boost in my daughter’s lunch box, or a quick replenishment for my son after an afternoon playing outside. The flavors truly smell delicious, and I fully admit that I wanted them for myself.
Baby Gourmet has also introduced banana berry Greek yogurt mushies, which are wholesome, organic finger foods for babies and toddlers that conveniently and quickly melt in their mouths. I can’t even tell you what a lifesaver these are for moms with children of all ages. These are great on-the-go snacks for strollers, restaurants, parks, and incorporated into meal times. The smaller size and shape allow babies to practice their fine motor skills, while eating a delicious and healthy treat! There’s no risk of choking, either, since these melt nicely in your child’s mouth almost instantly. I’m not sure who enjoyed the flavors more – my toddler, my six-year-old, or myself!
Their final new product that I sampled is a banana raisin oatmeal for babies six months and older. Unlike other oatmeals on the market, Baby Gourmet’s product is easy to digest, which means it is much gentler on your baby’s tummy. It is also packed full of iron and B vitamins, which are essential for optimal nutrition. You can really get creative with how to prepare this oatmeal. My son enjoyed it mixed with whole milk and a touch of cinnamon, but you can also mix it with water or breast milk. You can even add a few tablespoons to some homemade pancakes for an additional boost of nutrition.
Baby Gourmet’s entire product line is fantastic, and their new purees, mushies, and oatmeal are no exception. It has been a privilege for our family to sample these delicious snacks, and they have simplified my life while also making me feel really good about their nutritional content for my kids’ growing bodies. I highly recommend them for children of all ages as a delicious and healthy snack that both moms and kids can agree on.
