It’s a Banner Year for Lego Birthdays!

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Lego brick, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Lego Minifigure.  Who doesn’t love Lego, am I right?  Every single child has played with those lovable classic bricks at some point in their life.  And every parent has undoubtedly found at least one rogue block, while barefoot, in the dark, at two o’clock in the morning.

With that amount of longevity, it really is no wonder Lego is so popular.  But to be sure, one of the reasons for this is that even though the bricks themselves haven’t changed, they have managed to evolve some with the times. No matter what theme or hero or trend has been popular at the time, Lego has managed to come up with a brick set that will go along with that theme.  And with the popularity of the building toy, is it any wonder that so many of the major franchises like Minecraft are willing to lend their name to this playtime giant!

Today, we have two great treats to talk about with you in celebration of these milestone birthdays!

Lego Classic Bricks on a Roll

Lego Classic

This set features a wide and varied selection of bricks and wheels, unique pieces, including shapes and eyes.  Also included are age-appropriate instructions that will help foster creativity without being restrictive like themed sets that are designed to be built a specific way.  A set like this gets back to the heart of classic Lego the way we remember it in our youth when times were simpler, and toys didn’t have 40-page instruction booklets.  The instruction booklet includes 3 different levels of complexity, so the fun continues no matter the age of your child, and it even grows with them.  Or, you can just let their mind wander and let the creative juices flow.

New Collectible Minifigures are Ready to Party!

Lego birthday Minifigures

The new 2018 series of collectible minifigs are all ready to get on with the party and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the minifigure.  As a part of this year’s lineup, along with 16 brand new collectibles, there is also a replica of the first-ever minifigure, the police officer.

But we got a chance to check out a few, including a clown with balloon animals, a unicorn knight, and a girl in a flowerpot/flower costume.  These are super cute and innovative and a great addition to any minifigure collection, or any Lego collection in general.

Lego really has stepped up their game over the years, and each year seems just to keep getting better and better. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next, and hopefully, we don’t find them barefoot in the middle of the night, of course!

So be sure to go check out your favorite toy retailer.  The Bricks on a Roll collection is already available in stores, and the collectible minifigure mystery bags will be available in April. Make sure to get yours before they are gone!
