Book Wonder Review

The book I am going to talk about is the book Wonder. This book has been one of my favorite books that i read so far.

The genre is realistic Fiction or Children’s literature because in this book it talks about student struggles that we would have in real life. The main idea and theme of the book Wonder is kindness and friendship, because it helps us realize that small simple acts of kindness can make a big difference and that everyone has the ability to choose kindness.

A short synopsis of this story is when August is born with facial differences that up till now he didn’t want to go to a mainstream school. August was the most unlikely hero that entered fifth grade at a local school. His family, classmates, and the larger community that struggled with compassion and acceptance. August’s extraordinary journey will unite them and prove that you can blend in even when you are born standing out. The main settings in Wonder are Beecher Prep School (August’s school that he went to), North River Heights (where August lives), Broarwood Nature Reserve. Beecher Prep School is one of the main settings because that’s the school that August goes to and most of the book takes place at.  North River Heights is also important because more of the emotional, kindness, etc takes place and is also where August lives. Broarwood Nature Reserve is where their school Beecher Prep School went for a field trip.

Next we are going to be talking about the main character. The main character in this book is August Pullman. August is the main character in the book because he shows the most examples of kindness. Some characteristics traits about August are that he is – brave, friendly, inspirational, self-conscious, smart. August has light brown hair, brown eyes, and he in the book was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome or known as a cleft palate. August’s personality is that he is quite shy, and happy most of the time.

The two conflicts in the book Wonder are that August has to deal with Julian, and other mean kids from his new school. Most of these kids are mean to him because Julian convinces them to judge August for what he looks like. But the main conflict of this book is August getting through an entire school year in the fifth grade. He hasn’t been to school in his life before because of his health and many surgeries. This conflict is mainly a man vs. society conflict.

My opinion about this book is that it is a really good book. What i liked about this book is that it talks about how everyone should be treated, and that it talks about everyone’s thoughts in different perspectives in the book. I would recommend the book to people who had watched the movie Wonder because the book is way better and gives more information than the movie.
