Clek Oobr Booster Seat Review

Safety, comfort, quality, and style – this is the order of importance in most standard car seats. But luckily, I found the perfect one that is equally superior in all these aspects. I got the Clek Oobr booster seat for review for my daughter, which I must admit to have visually stood out among all the other car seats I have ever seen. But I was more surprised to learn about its safety features, which I have laid out in this Clek Oobr Booster Seat Review.

 

First off, the Oobr model I got is in a unisex style called “dragonfly”, which is plain moss green in fabric color, and plain white in the rear and the underparts of the seat. It also comes with a Drink-Thingy cup holder which can be attached to either side of the seat. Oobr’s very modern and sleek design is unlike any of the usual car seats that look too over-decorated and bulky. My daughter and I fancy it as an airplane seat because it does look like it. But don’t let this plain appearance trick you. Cleck Oobr may look very simple, but it has an extraordinary structure that is built for safety, as well as flexibility for comfort that my daughter really enjoys. 

The Clek Oobr booster seat is recommended for children aged 4 and up, with height of 38-57 inches (96-145 cm), and weight of 33-100 lbs (15-45 kg). Aside from its wide selection of plain colors (different shades of pink, blue, green, black, brown, gray), there are styles in fun and cute prints too like the Tokidoki design. There are also Oobr models in leather covers. 

Elemental Safety System: five key components in harmony with comfort and convenience 

Each part of Clek Oobr booster seat actually has features that don’t just overlap safety with comfort and convenience, but rather integrate them. This means, each part is not just about a single function or advantage, where nothing is compromised, and that’s why it looks so sleek and simple. Perhaps the best way for me to give it a really comprehensive and just review is by telling you about each safety component (which actually matters the most anyway), and I’ll sneak in the equally amazing convenience and comfort factors that it also includes.

 

Firstly, Oobr seat has a rigid LATCH system that ensures installment stability, and also allows the booster seat to recline for comfort. It has two latch connectors on the bottom back, that can be attached to my car’s latch anchors. When I place my Oobr with it just by positioning the booster seat properly, there is an audible “click” sound which confirms that it it is now properly locked. Lightly shaking the booster seat will further test that the latch is securely fastened, making it too stable to be shaken at all. When the latch system is used, Oobr can be reclined easily by pulling out its recline handle on the bottom front, so that the seat moves forward while still being securely latched, and the backrest leans back against the vehicle seat. Oobr can also be installed and used unlatched, as long as the backrest is fully leaning against the vehicle seat, and the recline function should not be used. And don’t forget to the seat belt!

 

The second safety component in Oobr is its 1st industry magnesium back frame, which is a metal shell on the inside to securely contain and protect the child’s torso, in case of side impact collision and vehicle intrusion. I love this feature where Oobr apparently has a soft and cushioned surface, but actually has inner workings which do the shock-proof and protective action. So that explains why Oobr is on the heavier side, which is around 20 lbs in weight. But I don’t mind, because most of the other common car seats are only made of hard plastics which I doubt to be uncrushable. Moreover, this makes Oobr a fully recyclable product! 

My daughter fits perfectly in her Oobr because of the adjustable headrest, and her sleepy head can comfortably rest against its padded side wings. The structural headrest with deep side wings of Oobr is the third safety component, which is adjustable through its two steel posts that connect with the backrest. These steel rods ensure that the headrest does not twist. While the deep side wings not only serve as bolsters that offer seated sleeping comfort, but also as a sturdy support to securely contain my child’s head and protect it from collision. 

Oobr’s energy-absorbent foam layer is the fourth safety component, which is also a huge comfort plus for my child. It is energy-absorbent in a way that it properly covers the metal substructure of the backrest, and reduces the forceful impact that is transferred to the child passenger. This comfortable foam layer also cushions my daughter in the soft-touch armrests, the bolster area, and the headrest. And for my own convenience as a mom, my dragonfly Oobr is relatively low-maintenance and so easy to clean because its outer layer is made of Crypton Super Fabrics, which is resistant to stain, moisture, and bacteria. 

Finally, the fifth safety component is the seat belt guide. Each headrest wing has a shoulder belt guide, so that either one of them can be used, depending on which side of the car the child is seated. The headrest should therefore be adjusted to be a little above the child’s shoulders, in order to optimize the shoulder belt position, as well as the child’s safety and comfort. While the lap belt should be easily located under the bolster seat’s armrests. 

Advanced features for long-term investment, and modern classic style for keeps 

With the above five components of elemental safety, Oobr gives me peace of mind as it meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the US, as well as the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. I am confident that with Oobr’s fashion-forward style and advanced safety features, it will withstand the ever-changing certification requirements of vehicle safety authorities. Oobr will not only grow with my daughter as it transitions from fullback to backless, because I can also see my younger son using it in the future, with Oobr still looking timelessly stylish and like brand new.
