Have your kids been having a holiday hangover still? Like in particular eating up all the sweets that they seem to never run out of since they got them from Halloween trick-or-treating, Christmas giveaways, and New Year celebration? I must confess that I’m already helping them ‘dispatch’ all the sweets in their stash, just to lessen all that sugar rush and cavities they’ve been getting. And while we enjoy having 2-3 sweets per day instead of taking them all at once, I also want them to enjoy taking care of their teeth and gums.
So let’s talk about our kids’ dental hygiene. Having had all these cavity risk problems especially now that my kids continue to explore with their taste buds (sweet tooth included), I must say that dental hygiene should really start early, even before their first taste of cavity-causing food. I know it’s easier said than done, but starting our babies early with the habit of good oral hygiene will actually make it easier for them as they grow bigger. And there are ways to make it easier and more fun now, like how Dr. Brown’s does it for my son.
As soon as baby’s first tooth comes out, gently brushing it regularly for just a few seconds already prepares baby for his lifetime of healthy dental care habits. What I like about Dr. Brown’s Infant-to-Toddler toothbrush is that its bristles are super soft and really gentle on little teeth and gums, plus the comfort grip handle makes it comfortable for little hands to hold, and the flexible body won’t let my son’s stiff (motor skills still developing) way of handling hurt himself. And because it’s infant-to-toddler (age 0-3), baby will feel at ease with the familiar feel of the toothbrush from babyhood until he grows into a toddler, given that the toothbrush is replaced every 3 months as recommended by dentists. And what my 3-yr old son likes most about it is its cute elephant design! He really enjoys brushing by himself as we stand next to each other in front of the mirror, making silly faces as he watches and mimics me and his big sister when brushing our teeth.
And what makes my son look forward to using his cute elephant toothbrush is Dr. Brown’s Natural Baby Toothpaste, also for age 0-3. My son loves the taste because it is flavoured with real apple and pear. I also approve of this because it is made with no artificial colours or preservatives, and it’s safe to swallow because it’s fluoride-free. He just needs a small, pea-sized amount for every toothbrushing, which he does in the morning and before bedtime, and sometimes after he munches on something seriously sugary. He gets fascinated in watching us spit after toothbrushing, so right now he’s still learning to resist swallowing his yummy toothpaste!
We still have a long way to go before I could tell that my son’s oral hygiene habits are well-established just like my big girl daughter has, but I feel at ease knowing that he enjoys toothbrush time. I’ve seen his progress and I’m very pleased with it, and I very much recommend the Dr. Brown’s Infant-to-Toddler Toothbrush Set because it already includes the toothpaste! How could your kid fuss during toothbrush time if it’s with his or her elephant toothbrush buddy and the safe and delicious apple and pear toothpaste flavour?
