Who does not want to eat healthy food? Nowadays, people are becoming obsessed of what they are eating. This is because of the increasing number of obese people not just in US but in the world. People go through different rigorous training exercise, gym sessions, joining marathons, dance sessions and many more just to trim down weight. But for very obvious reason those hard exercises are not enough because their food in-takes is not in- sync with their health activities.
Foods we take in are very important because our body needs many nutrients and minerals to function properly. The saying “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are” can also be applied to your health, “Tell me what foods you eat and I will tell you what your most probable health condition will be”. Cliché might be but there is truth to it. Because of this concern there had been many super foods and diet fads introduced in the market. But in my opinion, there is nothing better than eating healthy and clean food, when I say clean; I mean free of contaminants like pesticides that are harmful to your health.
These are the reasons why “organically produced foods” are gaining more popularity and higher market despite the premium price it commands. It’s better to invest on your health now than to invest on medications and hospital bills later.
Now, many or shall I say, majority of the generation X and Y are very much focus on their health and food in-take. They are taking charge of their body and foods. Some are becoming more vegetarians; others are cutting their proteins by consuming less of meat and other protein rich foods. But there are available foods that are nutritious but you don’t need to worry its effects to your health. One of them is the “Chia seeds”.
What are “Chia” seeds? Kathleen Selman, a registered and licensed dietician, wrote in her article on Chia is an edible seeds can be traced to the Mayan and Aztec culture in Mexico and it means “strength” because it believe to boost energy because of its nutritional contents. Chia seeds said to contain omega-3, protein, fiber, antioxidants, calcium and Phosphorous.
Let me share to you the nutritional benefits of Chia seeds:
- Calcium and Phosphorous – promote bone health
- Fiber – promotes good digestive condition
- Omega-3 – reduce inflammation
- Antioxidants – protect sensitive fats
- Protein – regulates insulin in the body and said to be effective in weight loss
- Other Minerals (Magnesium and Manganese) – help in hypertension prevention and energy metabolism
I used to think Chia seed is weird because I would associate it more to spices like pepper than grains. Having able to read its benefits and tried incorporating it to food I prepare for my family, makes me more use to eating it. We use it to mix with our cereal for breakfast and when baking cookies and bread.
The Organic Chia Seeds Gold is just perfect for us, aside from its nutritional benefits, it is also organic, so I am assured of free pesticide products (seed food said to absorb more pesticides and fertilizers applied to it) and it is also gluten free that helps reduces inflammation in intestines and prevent celiac disease. It is also fresh and clean as pack.
