Football, love it or hate it, it’s almost a rite of passage for most little boys, and some little girls too. Football fever seems to start without warning and suddenly you’re faced with trying to understand a world of fixtures and point systems while trying to remember the names of 11 men you’ve never met. It’s not a flash in the pan hobby like many of them and a football fan is often made for life from a young age; this means it’s time to put the leg work in.
Liverpool football club are a premier league team as are their city mates Everton, so this is a city with a strong footballing culture. If your son or daughter has chosen one of these as their team then a trip to Merseyside at some point is an absolute must. If you live outside of Liverpool then it’s best to check out the Travelodge hotels in Liverpool and make a little adventure out of the trip giving you more time to spend exploring the Liverpudlian club of choice.
Liverpool Football Club
Based at Anfield Road, Liverpool Football Club are one of the highest ranking teams in the premier league, and many dream of walking out onto the pitch in a red Liverpool shirt, following in the footsteps of heroes like Robbie Fowler. The club was formed in 1892 after Everton decided not to renew their rental of Anfield Stadium. When visiting Liverpool FC you can take a tour of the stadium where you can see the changing rooms, walk through the tunnel, sit in the dug outs, and see everything as the players do on match days. Anfield also has a Museum that explains the important history of the club and how it got to where it is today. Choose to take a tour of both the grounds and museum with one of the many enthusiastic guides and ask all those burning questions you’ve never had the opportunity to ask before.
Everton Football Club
Formed before Liverpool FC, Everton Football Club is the original football club of the city, something that any Everton fan will take great pleasure in informing you. The team in blue are currently sitting strong in the premier league and a trip to one of their matches always promises to be exciting. Everton have their home at Goodison Park and just like Anfield you can take a tour of the stadium and see what its like to stand on the hallowed turf. Goodison are especially well equipped for visitors both young and old with mobility difficulties, so be sure to mention any requirements on booking and you’ll find they are wonderfully accommodating.
Earn yourself a thousand parenting points and take your son or daughter to Liverpool to visit their favourite club. Even though the season is ending and you might not therefore catch a game, the tours run all year and are an experience not to be missed for any young footie fan.
Thank you for this wonderful post, Vivian! Michael’s family left Wales, UK to come to Canada(when he was only 12 years of age). He was heartbroken! His favourite team is Liverpool! We watch football every weekend and then some. Michael played as a child in Wales. The coach at his new school in BC was really surprised when he saw Michael playing for the first time. He invited Michael to play for the team after watching him for only a few moments! I would love to go to Liverpool to ‘experience the thrill of the game’!
