Food Huggers Review

I am a mother of two messy kids and sometimes my kitchen looks like I left a fruit blender on without closing the lid. I’m sure a lot of us mommies have already had a taste of our worst kitchen days. Dishes piling up like the Empire State Building, peanut butter and jelly all over the counter top, fruit slices all over the kitchen floor.

A friend of mine had once asked me if I have time to clean the kitchen during the morning. My first reaction was to chortle over the very idea of ever finding the time to clean what should be considered my “domain”.  No. I’ll be honest with you, most of the time I only get to clean up the kitchen mess at the end of the day.

I think my worse kitchen enemies are leftover produce. I mean, most of the time you really can’t cook all of the potatoes and you can’t use the whole lemon without putting your dinner at stake. So I have fruit and vegetable chunks left to rot in the kitchen sink or stashed in the fridge where they are doomed to be forgotten.

I would have been up to this wasteful routine until now had I not met Food Huggers. Food huggers aren’t your usual food-storing kitchen equipment. I am honestly not super-hot about food-saving kitchen equipment because I think most of them take up a lot of space in the fridge or are too time consuming to clean up but the Food Huggers are a different thing. They are the best food-saving idea ever!

As quirky as the name sounds, Food Huggers are soft, colorful silicon caps that easily fit over your left-over fruits and veggies. They are made of FDA grade silicone, which stretches to create a tight seal with the cut portion of a leftover piece of fruit or vegetable, keeping it from drying out in the fridge.

The food huggers come in different sizes too. I have a set of four Food Huggers which come in over-lapping sizes so I can just basically fit anything round-shaped over them. Tomatoes, garlic, onions, bell peppers, you name it. I also have a set of two avocado huggers which are really great for me. My son loves eating avocadoes but he’s still a teensy-weensy tot so he can only devour half of the avocado most of the time. The Avocado Huggers are great at keeping my little guy’s leftovers fresh and clean so I don’t get nervous about giving the rest of the avocadoes to him later on the day or even during the next day.

I think that the best thing about Food Huggers is that they are simple to use and are very efficient. They do exactly what they say they will which is to hug the food and keep it fresh. Plus, these thingies come in at a very affordable price you will not be wasting hundreds of dollars over bulky sets of food-saving kitchen “wonders” (or at least that’s what they claim to be). A set of Food Huggers will be $14.99 and the Avocado Huggers will be $9.99 from June 1st. I am definitely recommending this product to all mommies out there.
