Give Your Children the Edge in Education with Star Wars WorkBooks #BackToSchool

My little girl has finally started Grade 1. Although most of the stresses I had, involving preparing her for school is over, as a parent, I am still frequently looking for tools to give her that edge that she will need to stay ahead in her learning. I was excited to be introduced the Star Wars Workbooks and Ocean: a Photicular Book. Both of the latter are wonderful tools that will help to enrich your little ones learning experiences at home and give them that edge they need while enjoying each moment of it at the same time.

Star Wars Workbooks

The Star Wars Workbooks are a new collection of books, published by Workman Publishing. The collection consists of a variety of workbooks for preschool through to second grade, aimed at honing your little ones’ Math, Reading and Writing skills with the help of the Star Wars characters. Each workbook is filled to the brim with educational activities that are Star Wars themed, set in such a way that your little one would easily be able to complete each page on their own and will look forward to completing it. Additionally, the books are also set up according to the Common Core Standards that your children need to achieve at school.

I received the whole collection to review and decided to put it to the test one weekend with my little girl, as I knew that once school is over for the week it is difficult to get her to focus on anything else, but playing. After lunch, I invited her over to have a look at the First Grade Math workbook with me, at first I could see that she looked a bit rejected about the idea, but when I showed her the book her eyes lit up. After paging a bit through it, she started to work on the exercises without any pleading on my side. The instruction is easy for her to read and follow by herself. In the end, I had to convince her to stop doing it because as she finished one page, she wanted to see what the next page involved.

Since that day, the Star Wars Workbooks have become a new addition to her daily routine and something she looks forward to, almost like her own little adventure. I would like her to do 1-2 pages each day and it only takes her 10 minutes to finish it.  These books are truly an asset to any learning program as it is fun and educational, plus I’m sure your little one will enjoy the A is for the Anakin version of the alphabet more than the normal A is for apple, especially if they are a Star Wars fan. If they are not a fan yet, beware it will definitely convert them to Star Wars fandom. Another wonderful feature of these books is that they have all the answers included, which helps you as a parent to check your little ones work too.

I will definitely keep the preschool ones for my little boy when he is the appropriate age as well as invest in some more of the 1st and 2nd grade books. The only thing that disappoints my little girl and me a bit is that they do not offer any workbooks for higher Grades yet, something I hope they will look into it. In addition to the Star Wars Workbooks, I also received a copy of the Ocean: a Photicular Book to review with my little ones. Although this book was not published specifically for children, I believe it will also make a wonderful addition to any home library as it was definitely designed to awaken the reader’s curiosity about the ocean.

Ocean Photicular Book

The book is filled with stunning full colour photographs of the creatures of the deep that uses Photicular technology to give it life. When you hold this book, you are transported to the underwater realm as you watch engrossed how each picture ripples with life, it is less a book and more like holding a portal into another world. The author, Carol Kaufmann introduces each of these magical creatures with tidbits about that they eat, their characteristics and behaviour. It allows the reader to learn more about the magical animal that they see on the page.

I read this book at bedtime with my little ones, each of them sitting on each side of me. They were swept away with each page I turned, completely caught in the spell of the book. They have begged me many times after that to let them look at the book, my little girl wanting to know even more about the creatures than what the book held inside its covers. As a result, I had to get them more books and DVDs about the ocean life, although I do not mind as it helps them learn and leaves them with a spark of wonder and respect for nature. My little boy on the other hand has one favorite out of all the ocean creatures and points it out every time we have a look at the book, the big shark with pointy teeth.

I will definitely recommend you to add this book to your library, even if you do not have children. The book is magical and will captivate anyone for hours. In addition, it is a wonderful tool to have at hand for your children’s school projects. Above all, however, I believe the fact that it tickles my little ones’ curiosity to learn is the most important feature of this book. Therefore, do yourself a favor and have a look at these books I mentioned, as it is difficult to find tools that keep little ones interested in learning away from school and will definitely give you peace of mind.
