Most of the kids now love science, and science experiments are just fun to make. The Magic School Bus is well known to take the young scientists into a wonderful scientific journey. The fact that it is developed by graduates of Harvard itself excited me much. All the series in Magic School Bus are designed in such a way that kids get to learn the basic concepts in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geology. My daughter, with a couple of her friends just enjoyed the series of Growing Crazy Crystals a lot.
The Growing Crazy Crystals kit is designed for kids above 5 years of age and since my daughter is 7, it is really perfect for her. My son who is not under this age group, still managed to stay with us and I was all my ears and eyes on him since the kit came with a choking hazard for kids below 3 years of age. The colorful kit included an observation chart through which kids kept the track of growing crazy crystals. My daughter transformed into a true Science enthusiasts just like Ms. Frizzle (not eccentric though!) and had great fun and exciting exploration about basic concepts of crystal growing. The activities like growing rock candy, creating crystal art, making crystal star and Epson salt crystals sparked much curiosity in her.
All the materials required for the activities are the ones you could find in any kitchen like the baking soda, sugar, salt, food color and stuff. I was so happy to guide my kids about some activities they could also conduct at home and also with their friends in neighborhood. The home-grown crystals which were simply amazing to look. The crystallizing kit also came with brushes, tweezers, magnifying glasses, measuring cup, petri dishes and other elements that made these young ones feel at laboratories.
It was so good to see my daughter learn the experiment by making them and showing them to other friends as well. This was the best way she could grasp the content of these activities in the kit. The Growing Crazy Crystals set has it all in one single bag so the kids develop great love for science and the dynamic deduction, as Ms. Frizzle often says.
I definitely recommend this amazing crystal growing kit to all parents. If you are not a science freak parent, it’s still fine! I am not one too. You get a colorful manual with detailed instruction about experiments and information about the topic. While experimenting you will definitely get those huge missiles like “how did the crystal tree grow”, “why did the crystal take a star form”, “how did the salt crystals work that way” phew! I wish the manual included an FAQ section which would be much easy for a parent like me with non science background. But the instructions and information in the manual were still pretty clear that I did not take the help of Google or wiki for anything.
The kits are a great present for elementary school aged kids and makes the little one smile. On the whole it’s a great mixture of delightful experiments, colorful materials and easy to follow instructions. Excellent quality materials, attention to safety and amazing entertaining factor gives positive science experiences for children at an early age.
Science is no more mysterious and complicated with these wonderful kits from The Magic School Bus. Having fun and learning at the same time inspires the young generation to do more hands on experiments at an early elementary age.
