I know, I know, we’ve been quite the collectors lately! Whatever keeps the kids happy, right? But seriously, these new mystery boxes are way cool and really captivating my son and daughter’s interest at the moment, which is all that counts in my book!
The Lost Kitties are being produced by Hasbro, which are the latest of their line of collectibles. There are 36 Lost Kitties in all, and each of them has their own super unique personality. This makes them lots of fun to play with. They are all different in their own special way, just like real cats. Most are quite mischievous so look out!
The type of play my kids like best with these is using their imagination and background knowledge of what each Lost Kitty is like to go on surprising adventures and partake in fun and interesting situations. There is a lot of creativity buzzing around in our household right now! I love these type of non-electronic toys that enable kids to think for themselves. It’s a nice refreshing change from all the time they usually want to spend on our family tablet and other devices.
So, you are probably wondering about how the kids know about who each of the Lost Kitties are. Well, each mystery box comes with a convenient buying and collecting guide that has a blurb about each kitty. With the guide, kids can see who they have, who they want, and who they still need to get. For my son, since he is still learning to read, this was a great motivator for him to keep learning!
Something really cool and modern about these figurines is that on the guide, it tells you which “squad” the Lost Kitty belongs to. These are outline with hash tags, for example #adorbs or #scardycat. Kids will then get excited about putting together a whole squad! My kids spent a lot of time looking over and rereading all about the 36 Lost Kitties.
These mystery boxes are actually more like cartons. Inside each one is the Lost Kitty figure, two accessories, and a meme sticker. Perhaps the most exciting part of these toys is that you have to dig through a playdough-like material to find them! So not only do kids get the kitty, but they get some playdough to play with. My kids had fun making beds for their Lost Kitties, as well as cakes and other food.
Like with all collectables that need to be opened, it’s really exciting to see which one you get. Half of all the fun comes from the anticipation and surprise! The other half comes from actually playing with them of course. I’ll be buying a few more so my son and daughter can add to their growing collection. If they happen to get some duplicates, they can swap with friends. You could have a Lost Kitties party! I’m sure it would be a hit. I’ll being trying it myself in the near future.
