Maxi Micro Kids Scooter {Review}

I can’t deny that my daughter’s summer seems to get more and more exciting for her every year. And this year, her summer’s going to be a very adventurous one as it also marks her ever increasing and unstoppable independence. It was only few years back when she was only a little girl which I really must look after all the time. But this year is really different. Aside from her loving role as a big sister to her little brother, she has become a smart and self-reliant schoolgirl. She even assures me with confidence that she’s going to be fine whenever I have some little worries.

I’m slowly accepting my daughter’s growing independence because I know that I can’t just let her be a baby forever (though in my heart, she’s still my baby girl!). So I figured that she’s perhaps ready to take on the world with a scooter, and she was indeed! Her Maxi Micro Scooter is the reason why you can’t blame me for having some emotional realizations about my daughter who’s really growing up so fast. I honestly thought that she would be hesitant or might not really be into scooters, until she tried the Maxi Micro and quickly got hooked in no time! It’s specially designed for kids aged 5 to 11, while it also has the Mini Micro one for kids 3 to 6. We got the lovely red colour that’s perfect for her.

The Maxi is a three-wheeled kickboard, so the two front wheels are supportive enough for young kids and ensure me of my daughter’s safety, while its rear-foot brake adds more stability. It also features the “lean-to-steer” mechanism, where the child can use his own body weight for surfing through. Just like skaters and skiers, kids can also slalom and carve along zigzagging tracks. These scooter moves were making me feel nervous at first, but I’m glad that my daughter felt safe and confident as she glided with the Maxi. In fact, she was having a blast!

I very much appreciate the Maxi’s wide, rugged and slip-resistant deck with a fibreglass-reinforced chassis, making the scooter very durable for everyday long-term use, yet lightweight for cruising comfort. I’m sure my toddler son will get to use this one like new, four to five years from now. I also like that it has adjustable handlebars, which can be into the classic T-bar that my daughter uses right now, or a one-handed pilot stick which is exciting for advanced riders. While the smooth, silent, non-marking wheels are made possible through high-quality polyurethane material. And it’s great to know that all Micro products are manufactured with ISO-certified quality standards. They are made by Swiss company Micro Mobility Systems, and is distributed by Kickboard Canada.

Now that my daughter seems to be having the time of her life whenever she’s on her Maxi, I’m happy that it’s helping her further improve her motor skills. It takes some good balance, body coordination, speed and movement control, focus on direction, and proper posture to manoeuvre a scooter. It’s a convenient alternative to running and walking especially if we’re going to places that usually take very long walks. Her Maxi has definitely taken our walk to the park, to a whole new level. So for added safety and protection (for my peace of mind, rather), I make sure that my daughter wears a helmet. But sigh, I learned that my little princess is a tough girl after all, and that kids are more resilient than we think!
