Meet Aleisha!

“When it rains looks for rainbows; when it is dark look for stars.”

In just a little over three months, this quotation will be the first words my new son wakes up to, and the last words he sees before he drifts off into dreamland. As a first time mom-to-be, I am filled with a wealth of emotions, not the least of which is pride for the fact that I will be able to impart in my children the same courage, passion, and values as my husband and I live by. The quotation above will not only be the Nursery Theme, but indeed, it will be the theme by which we live and grow as a family.

This commitment to the pursuit of truth, beauty, and accomplishment has driven me to become many things in my life, and I have enjoyed a wide variety of careers all of which have been in the name of achieving my ultimate goal of inspiring confidence, self-esteem and self-love in others. I have been a performer on stage and film; a journalist for a wide variety of publications; a writer across numerous genres; an arts, literacy and culture educator; a professional Life and Creativity Coach; an image consultant; and a natural cosmetics formulator. As an entrepreneur, I have started two businesses from the ground up – The Art Within, a creative arts centre where individuals could connect with others and themselves using the arts as a tool for personal exploration and development; and Bling!Beauty (www.blingbeauty.ca), an all-natural luxury cosmetics company which offers more than just khaki, navy and beige – because life is more fun with a healthy dose of glitter!

My passion for natural cosmetics arose when I was seeking out healthier alternatives to mainstream cosmetics for my wedding day – not only do I have incredibly sensitive skin and eczema, but I also have fibromyalgia and a histamine intolerance – not to mention the wrinkles, age spots and rosacea that come with age, and now all sorts of fun pregnancy hormones! It is truly shocking to me the number of products we use every day – whether they be for our skin, our home, or those tiny little humans (and furbabies!) we take care of – which contain all sorts of harmful, and typically unnecessary ingredients!

In no way am I anti-progress (my amazing husband designs and builds things that go into space!), but I am absolutely pro-awareness. We must take it upon ourselves to learn as much as we can about what we are consuming and how those materials and ingredients can affect us or our environment so that we may make healthy, informed choices.

Fortunately, today there are so many wonderful entrepreneurs and companies who are committed to these same strong values of health and quality, so we have many options available to us if only we take the time to do our research and seek them out. We deserve better and so do our families; we are absolutely worth it.

Such are the values I will teach my children; such are the values I live by, and I hope that in some way, my writing here will help to impart in you that same desire to seek out every rainbow and star along the way. I am proud to be joining the Natural Baby Goods Team! 

Meet Christina and her son!

I was a Military Police Soldier in the Army for years and was retired due to injuries. I absolutely LOVED being in the Army! Due to my injuries, my husband and I didnt think that we would be able to have children but during a visit home during his last deployment we were surprised to be pregnant. Being a thirty-something mom is great! I am very fortunate to be able to stay home with Thomas everyday. I attribute my interest in gardening, cooking, finding ways to be more efficient and saving money to my Grandmother who raised me. Jumping out of airplanes and repelling out of helicopters gave me a thirst and need for adventure that has carried into my adventures of being a Mom. We are ready for anything!
