Ever wondered how it feels like to live like a pirate? I’m sure most of you adults did when Peter Pan used to be one of our favorite characters in our childhood. Well, my kids were curious too, thanks to Jake and the Neverland Pirates! We’ve had our fun dressing and acting like pirates ourselves, and when we had the opportunity to get on a pirate cruise, we were just so psyched about it!
Last Sunday, August 21, was the last pirate cruise trip held for this year by Real Muskoka Steamships. Oh boy, we were so lucky to be able to catch it because we really had a blast! Right from the invitation on their website, even if we haven’t started riding the ship yet, we already felt like pirates because of the pirate language and words we’re learning.
“Arrgh!!! Rumor be ou’ th’ infamous swashbuckler Captain Corbin be comin’ t’ “take” Wenonah each Sundee mornin’. If ye be brave enough t’ take his vow t’ lead a life o’ sweet trade, th’ Captain swabbieally requests yer presence. Don’t forget t’ dress in yer Seafarin’ hearty costume!
Mature Jacks (Adult) $39.95
Middle Jacks (Age 6 to 12) $22.95
Little Jacks (Age 2 to 5) $11.50”
So we were encouraged to be on our pirate costumes for the cruise. And aye, we did! We didn’t know what to expect at first, but as the brilliant Captain Corbin welcomed us and as the Wenonah II ship started sailing, we felt like we were in Neverland!
There were lots of little boats following us around, which carried people wearing pirate costumes as well. They waved pirate flags and had their own weapons like toy swords, arrows and water guns and started attacking our ship! Some motorboats also did water splashing exhibitions. And even in our own ship there were adult pirates who were either defending our ship against the attackers or just swordfighting with the kids and jumping into the water because they were defeated! My kids were really loving every moment.
We also passed by so many pirate-themed attractions. We saw mermaids on rocks in the middle of the lake. And there were more pirates battling on the docks and performing water stunts, and there were even cannon shots! And on top of that was the breathtaking sights around Lake Muskoka which is really beautiful even just on its own.
My kids also had fun with their treasure hunt game. It was really a complete adventure with more than anything we would expect. The cruise lasted two hours and it was a great Sunday morning well spent. Captain Corbin and the crew never ceased to make us laugh, and all the cottagers around Lake Muskoka did a great job in making our cruise special and unforgettable.
If you’re going to be in Ontario or nearby, you better watch out on July and August next year for another chance to join the pirate cruise. But meanwhile, you can check out other available kids’ themed cruises right now at the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre website. There are also cruises that offer lunch or dinner. You better get on one! I’m not yet over it myself.
