May has just gone by and I must say that it was a fully packed month for my family, with my Mother’s Day hangover still on me. I really feel like May was this year’s best month for me so far because Disney and Hasbro’s feature princess for May was Ariel, the Little Mermaid! Let me explain a bit.
When I was young, Ariel was the fairy tale character I remember to have really admired the most. Because she’s not just a princess, she’s a mermaid! I know I’m not the only one who tried to swim like a mermaid every time I hit the pool. And I’m proud to say that I know the words to the song “Part of that World” and “Under the Sea”! And who wouldn’t find Flounder and Sebastian too cute?
And now, my daughter loves Ariel too, without any influence from me. And in defense of Ariel being naive for falling in love and trading her voice for a pair of walking legs, the bigger picture here is that she’s a brave risk-taker wanted to learn and experience the human world even if she did it the hard way. And her rocking red hair is just iconic. Well, I guess Ariel was the Elsa of our earlier Disney Princess times, don’t you think?
Royal Shimmer Ariel Doll
And speaking of Ariel’s rockin’ red hair, this Royal Shimmer doll makes me and my daughter want to have our hair dyed red too! But this doll will do for now. Her sea green sparkly ombre gown and matching shoes will remind anyone that this beautiful red-haired lady is the most awesome mermaid princess ever.
Little Kingdom Ariel’s Castle
While Ariel loves to walk on land, I and my daughter want to explore her underwater kingdom! This Little Kingdom playset includes a seashell swing, slide, and seaweed harness for the little playful mermaid to enjoy. And of course, the Ariel doll in mermaid form is such a delight to style and play with! There’s a vanity tub with mirror and back scrubber to pamper her. The bodice, peplum, skirt, accessories and other snap-ins can be mixed and matched to customize Ariel’s look. And there’s Sebastian too!
Spin & Swim Ariel
And this one is an unexpected favourite! My daughter enjoys bath time with this Spin & Swim doll. It’s a wind-up toy where you have to spin the seashell on Ariel’s back, and then release her on the water to see her and her friends Flounder and Sebastian float, swim and spin! It’s no surprise that my daughter took longer to finish her her bath time. Even my 3-year old son keeps asking his big sister to wind up Ariel again and again. I love that Ariel’s red hair is “real” too.
I’ve never been this excited and in love with Disney Princess toys before. Thumbs up to Hasbro for coming up with awesome new ideas that not only made my daughter’s playtime extra special, but also made me happy too as a mom who used to be a Disney Princess fangirl too. We can’t wait for the next feature princesses!
We got the Rapunzel doll that Emily loves.
