Good Books for Your Kids from Scholastic Canada

scholastic

I have always been a reader which is why I always encourage my daughter to read as I believe it will do her a lot of good. As a parent, looking for good books for my kids to read is quite fun as there are a lot of good children’s books out there that I believe will go a long way in helping my kids develop. Quite recently I got several new books from Scholastic Canada and I simply must tell you all about them.

Welcome Baby by Barbara Reid

welcome baby

This book is really quite sweet and was written by the author as a sort of love letter to babies and their families. In this book, she explains the kind of joy babies bring to their parents, grandparents, and other members to the family. What I like about this is she uses such gentle rhymes and sweet words that are easy for younger kids to understand. So yes, I say this is an absolute must for any nursery shelf.

Little Jack Horner, Live From the Corner By Helaine Becker

Little Jack Horner

If the first book was all sweetness, this one is just a bucketful of hilarity. The author has taken all your favorite nursery rhymes and makes them interact with one another in a very silly but highly entertaining song. Helaine Becker spares no one in this book and even shy Jack Horner is made to leave his corner so he can sing to his other nursery Rhyme character friends. Not only is the text quirky but the illustrations are a masterpiece that my daughter and I simply cannot get enough of.

My Friend Henry By Philippe Béha

My Friend Henry

This is a story about a loyal friend looking for his best friend Henry and is a very charming picture book that is sure to get your kids hooked. I know mine was and it was all due to the whimsical tone that the writer has brought to the book. Philippe Beha spins a tale that is sure to tug at your heart strings and gives readers a very satisfying twist right at the end. This is the kind of book that will entertain kids and get them to think of where Henry might be at the same time. I know my kid and I had a blast figuring out just where in the world Henry went off to.

Seeing Red By Robert Munsch, Illustrated by Michael Martchenko

seeing red

Before I say anything else, I need to tell you that while the other books were good, this was my daughter’s favorite. The story really is quite funny and tells a light-hearted tale of how best-friends Alex and Arie play tricks on each other and each other’s hair colors. My daughter couldn’t stop giggling over Alex being tricked into eating gobs of red- colored food just so he can have red locks like his best friend. Don’t feel too bad for Alex though as he does manage to pull a fast one on Arie as well.

I urge you to start developing your kids’ reading habits as early as now as it will do them a lot of good in the end. Books like these will show them that reading does not have to boring and can in fact be a lot of fun. Plus, you can also bond with your kids with these books because I know my daughter and I have some of the best moment together during story-telling time.

  1. I love Robert Munsch books! I can’t wait for my children to be able to pick out the books they want from Scholastic. It was so much fun waiting for the books to arrive.
