As a child, we all dreamed of what we want to be when we grow up. We would pretend play or do role-playing with our friends. However, there were times when we were stuck at home—alone. This was the time when our toys came to life and our dreams and wishes became reality. As a little girl, dolls were the number one and favorite toy, especially Barbie. I think that this is still true until now because Barbie never goes out of style. The collection just gets bigger and bigger but she is recognized over different generations.
I can still remember that Ken was not yet widely available when I was young. I would get my older Barbie dolls and cut their hair to make them my very own version of Ken. The problem after that would be Ken’s clothes. I would use the paper clothes for my paper dolls and they used to work just fine. I would pretend to be Barbie and go with Ken out on a date—in the park, go to a pool party or attend a formal ball. Sometimes I would just be Barbie’s fashion adviser and dress her up however I want to, with all the accessories I have in hand.
I thought that Barbie already had everything when I had them. But seeing all the clothes, accessories and even the play sets now make me think otherwise. When my 4-year old daughter talks to me about Barbie, I can see and feel how it evolved through the years. With the Barbie items available for little girls nowadays—bikes, scooters, tents, bags and a lot more, they can pretend to be true to life Barbie. It opens children’s imagination more and even their creativity. I myself am surprised whenever I see or hear my daughter while in play.
When it comes to the prices, I would not say it is cheap but considering the growth of the collection, it is still very much affordable.
