When the digital age just emerged, we were excited when we received an email from someone as it was a rather new and rare occurrence, however the tables have turned. We receive a huge amount of emails per day and staying in contact with friends and family is only a click away on the computer or mobile phone. Receiving handwritten mail in the post has become a rare event. Hallmark Canada has taken note of this and as a result started their Share the Love – Hallmark 7 Day Card Challenge.
They are challenging people to disconnect a bit from connecting with others via technology and to go old school and use snail mail – sharing the love you have for your family and friends by sending seven different cards during seven days. I decided to take on the challenge, as I am still a bit of a child at heart when it comes to receiving mail in the post. In addition, it also brings back fond memories of my childhood when I checked the post box religiously every day to see if there was any mail for me.
I received a 7-pack of variety of thank you cards from Hallmark to distribute to anyone I felt needed thanks. All the cards were of a high quality standard with beautiful designs to suit different people. Another wonderful thing about them was that it also had the sweetest of words written inside, already to help you if you are like me and sometimes fumble to get the right words to express how you feel.
At first, I struggled as I tried to think of names of people I wanted to surprise with a card. However, it was as I was sitting and watching my little ones play that the list became a bit clearer. I knew that I definitely had to make out a card to them and my hubby, to thank them for being who they are and to give my little ones the chance to experience the feeling of receiving something in the mail. I chose each of them a card and set about writing a special message in it and posting it.
That only left me with four more cards to distribute, which my little ones helped me further as they spotted me writing their daddy’s card and wanted part in the fun. I got them each to draw pictures that I added to two cards and sent off to the selected family members. The last two I sent to some of my friends, thanking them for just being there for me and being themselves and challenging them to take part in the challenge.
I must admit sending out all these cards to everyone made me feel all warm and giddy, but the real reward was the response I got in return – the phone calls thanking me for my sweet gesture, the smile from my hubby when he received the card, but the response of my little ones was above all the best. Their faces lit up when I told them that they received something in the post. They could not wait to open it, hugging me tight once I read it to them.
Therefore, do yourself a favour and take part in the Hallmark Share the Love – 7 Day Card Challenge. It is a rewarding experience and helps you to experience the feeling of connecting with others in a non-digital manner. Additionally, Hallmark also offers a variety of cards that are special to your needs – for birthdays, anniversaries or just to say hello – they have the card for you!
