Our mattress has faux fur-like fabric on top (I don’t know what to call it) and it has served us well for the cold autumn and winter months. I really love it so much because it looks and feels so luxurious, but come late spring and following summer, we would wake up all sweat in it! Covering it with just lightweight cotton sheets isn’t really a good idea because the warmth of the mattress flows through it, and I could still feel the thickly texture when I lay on it.
I wish I had a smooth mattress to replace our faux fur mattress when the hotter seasons come in, but it’s an expensive and inconvenient thing to do. So as I looked for other options to make do with our ‘luxurious’ mattress, I specifically wanted something that would feel cool on our backs and still look and feel luxurious.
Ordinary mattress toppers and pads weren’t gonna work for me because I move in bed a lot and my kids would occasionally jump on it, eventually disarranging the pad, and then I’d have to arrange again. So I also wanted something that would stay put no matter what. And just by the name itself, it looked like SureFit was what I was looking for.
I have the SureFit Breathable mattress pad in queen size to try. I wasn’t sure what the height of my mattress was, but it’s really thick so I wasn’t also sure if this mattress pad would fit right. But the product says it has FormFit technology which makes it fit in mattresses up to 18 inches thick even if its contours felt too tight when I touched it. But true enough, as I put it on my mattress, the contoured corners stretched really well but stayed locked in place. The non-slip elastic bands stayed tucked in. The mattress pad instantly seemed like it was part of the mattress! It was a perfect and secure fit.
So my first concern, which is the fit, was all taken care of. I was so happy. But then I had to remind myself that the look and feel should be even better. Well, I personally love quilted things so the large quilted design of the SureFit mattress pad was instantly love at first sight. But what’s great about it is that it provides for some cooling space between my body and the mattress pad. And when something accidentally spills on it, the liquid wouldn’t quickly scatter as the quilted sides would catch it.
Now, as to its breathability, the underside of the SureFit Breathable mattress pad features this spacer-knit backing which provides for air circulation between the person and the mattress, and allows heat to escape. I think this is the most important thing I should have looked for! The underside kinit made the mattress pad more airy and it felt like a cloud when I laid on it. And we woke up fresh and sweat-free. Aaah, I even forgot about the original faux fur fabric of my mattress!
And as I was emphasizing my ‘luxury’ factor requirement, the thread count of SureFit Breathable mattress pad is 300! Hmm… I think I want to spoil my mattress a little bit more with other SureFit mattress pad variants. SureFit also has Reversible (for warming and cooling), Memory Foam, Waterproof, and Anti-Allergen. Why wouldn’t I want them all when they’re easy to clean? Simply machine wash and tumble dry!
