Young Scientists Discover That Making Art Is A Great Way To Learn Science In 2016

I always try to hold back myself from asking my kids if they prefer one between science and art because I’d like them to enjoy both fields together. Not only because I want them to become well-rounded kids, but because I want them to learn in a raw manner, not setting limits on their minds about which one is science and which one isn’t art.

I know my kids will find their own inclination towards a certain field of interest someday, but in the meantime I want them to experience everything even if it means experiencing two or more distinctive fields together. Just like science and art.

For example, how much more can kids enjoy learning about the planets than by having them create their own model? Just like the SPACE-themed Science-Art Fusion kit we got. It has 10 activities and experiments that encourage kids to be their own artistic selves while learning about the concepts of gravity, centrifugal force, constellations, the solar system, and a lot more.

SPACE-themed Science-Art Fusion kit

Everything my kids need for this fun exploration is in the kit. But just like any other experiment and creative work for kids, be warned that their hands are gonna get dirty! But that’s nothing compared to the rich and super fun learning to be had in return. And to really make every activity an unforgettable experience, the SPACE kit includes a 24 x 24 inch poster which has the narratives and spots to tape your kids’ project photos on. And there you have a science-art gallery that your kids will exhibit proudly.

Would you consider innovators Leonardo da Vinci and Steve Jobs to be scientists or artists? It’s a debate in which you just can’t pick one field. These two thinkers embraced all the principles of STEM but added the beauty of art, now known in education circles as STEAM. The Young Scientists Club leaps into 2016 with this fusion of fields with their Science-Art Fusion Series six themed kits ($19.99).

For the past 17 years, The Young Scientists Club has put their focus on playful experiments for children as young as preschool. Their brand new Science-Art Fusion Series uses Bubbles, Crystals, Sculptures, Space, Explosions and Rainbows for boys and girls to be inspired to create, while learning basic scientific principles. Construct a DNA Model in Science-Art Fusion Sculptures; perform planet Earth chromatography with Science-Art Fusion Space or impress Mom with a milk color explosion with the instructions from Science-Art Fusion Explosions.

This new series is geared to ages 5 and older and includes, a customized art/science tray plus a large 24 x 24 inch poster. Once the experiment ends, the same poster — now taped with photographs documenting their success — can be turned into a bedroom gallery!

Look for these STEAM themed kits in specialty stores and online at www.TheYoungScientistsClub.com. All are for ages 5 and up and are $19.99:

  • Bubbles
  • Crystals
  • Explosions
  • Rainbows
  • Sculptures
  • Space

Every themed kit boasts components for creating 10 different experiments. The customized art/science tray keeps all the experiment elements safe in one spot (and not on the kitchen table or floor!) Young Scientists are encouraged to take a photo as each experiment is completed (perhaps wearing a white lab coat?) and then tape the picture on the spot on the poster. When done, a bragging-rights-worthy poster is ready for hanging on a cherished wall.
